Finding what processes have a file open

The microsoft process explorer utility can be used to find what programs are keeping a file open.

Download the zip package from here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Extract the zip file to your local computer and double click procxp.exe to start the program.

Use the search/find option and type in a partial filename to find the process that has the file open.
